This week, go ahead and complete two tasks:


  1. Go through your closets and name all of the things in Spanish that you know, for example:

  7. Mas o Menos—Have a parent think of a number from 1-20 (or 1-100 for an extra challenge) and guess in Spanish. The parent can say, "No, my number is mas (more) or menos (less) than that."

08 Test in 3 Weeks // Test the week of Nov. 12, 2014

Hola clase!

It's been an exciting 2 months and you all are learning so well!

Therefore, in 3 weeks (The week of November 12),  you will have your first big test! The test will cover the vocabulary below.

We have covered a ton of vocabulary over the last two months (about 100 words!!!), and it seems that you all have at least a general knowledge of all of it! But don't worry if you're not perfect yet.

Just pick at least 2 of the following studying options to complete this week for homework, and that, along with next week's review day in class, should have you all pretty much prepared!

Buenos Dias Clase!

It's that time of year: Fruit Smoothies!

Next week, we will be making and eating fruit smoothies!

In preparation, you need to make sure that you have all of the vocabulary learned:

  • Batido // Smoothie
  • Jugo // Juice
  • Espinacas // Spinach
  • Fresas // Strawberries
  • Bayas // Berries
  • Limas // Limes
  • Platanos // Bananas
  • Manzanas // Apples
  • Naranjas // Oranges

  • Yo quiero aƱadir // I want to add
  • Yo quiero tomar // I want to drink
We will have the following ingredients specifically:

  • Jugo de manzana // Apple Juice
  • Jugo de naranja // Orange Juice

  • Bayas // Berries
  • Limas // Limes
  • Platanos // Bananas
  • Leche // Milk
Therefore, I would like you to decide on three different recipes with combinations of those ingredients (at least 3 ingredients in each) so we can try some of them next week! 

I would also like you to make and bring flashcards for all of the vocabulary (see the first list).

This week, you are going to learn some family vocabulary!

Workbook:

  • Complete page 2 in your workbook 2.
Art:
  • Draw a picture of everyone in your family and label them with the Spanish name for their family part and their name! (Ex: Madre Hannah; Hermana Sally)
  • For an extra challenge, give your parents the school supplies and ask your parents for each in Spanish!


Video:

  • Watch the video below at least 3 times throughout the week!
    • A couple things you might need to review before watching:
      • Como estas? // How are you?
      • Yo estoy… contento // I am happy (you can also just say "muy bien gracias"
      • Que te gusta hacer? // What do you like to do?
      • Me gusta… hablar // Me gusta… talk

05 Action Verbs // Due the week of Oct. 1, 2014

This week, you will be working with action verbs—the absolute key building block of speaking!

Workbook:

  • Complete the handout I gave you in class on action verbs—it's from a workbook like the ones you have, but it is from a later workbook, which is why I just gave you the copies.
Simon Says:
  • Play "Simon Says" with a family member or friend! (The other person can have the words in front of them.) Take turns playing and saying things like:
    • Simon says Correr! (Run) 
      • Then run in placed (or if you're outside, you could really run!)
    • Simon says Hablar! (Talk)
      • Then talk, like Blah, Blah, Blah
    • Simon says Comer! (Eat)
      • Then make the motion for eating
Let It Go:
  • Have fun watching Frozen's "Let It Go" in Spanish!

04 School Supplies

Hola Clase!

This week, you will be learning what the school supplies are, so you can use them as we use them in school!

Workbook:

  • Complete pages 29-34 in your workbook 2.
Extra Practice:
  • Go through the things in your backpack/bin/supply-bookshelf, etc, and label them either out loud, or with sticky notes or slips of paper next to them! (You may want to do this after watching the following video which will introduce you to most of the pronunciations.)
  • Watch the following video at least 3 times throughout the week! You'll want to interact out loud with the video and do everything it says! (However, you may skip the part where you add up the numbers for another time when we've learned numbers better.)
    • You'll be using the phrase, "Yo quiero comprar… a school supply." 
    • "Yo quiero" means "I want"
    • "Comprar" means "To buy"

03 The Body, Animals, and Verbs!

This week, you will be learning the parts of the body, animals, and several verbs (action words)! (We went over some of these in class, but you'll be reconfirming them in the homework.

Body Parts

  • For the body, complete pages 20-25 in workbook 1. The vocabulary can be seen on page 19!

Farm Animals and Verbs
  • The animals we learned this week are:
    • Perro — Dog

  • The verbs we learned this week are:
    • Correr — To run

    • Cantar — To sing
    • Jugar — To play
    • Bailar — To dance
  • Homework:
    • Two options:
      • With a family member, friend, or sibling, take turns drawing either a body part, animal, or verb. Then guess what it is in Spanish in a fun game of Spanish pictionary for about 15-20 minutes! You can split this up into 5 minutes a day if you'd like :) Encourage your family to guess with the Spanish word and learn along with you! (If you choose this option, see the below sentence to have your parent sign:
        • (Johnny Smith) played Spanish pictionary for 15-20 minutes! Signature:__________________________
      • If you don't have a person to play pictionary with you or don't want to play pictionary, pick 5 animals and 3 verbs to draw and label on a piece of paper.
